Black water tank question

So purchased our first hybrid travel trailer. The black tank has the dump valve and then on the side also there is a water connection to hook up to flush out the black tank. So my question is when you are at a dump station do you completely drain the black tank then hookup water and flush or do you do it simultaneously to move everything through. Also a lot of dump stations we encountered to clean out the porta potty on our old pop up have water hoses but they are just cut off at the end so you couldnt screw onto the trailer flush fitting as you would need the threaded hose end. If thats case do you typically flush your tank. Thx

Drain tank first, then flush......a lot of us trailer folk use a clear elbow on the hose to know what's going on ........if you can't flush, add 5 gals water back in....you don't want tank to dry out......flushing is usually done when you have a full hook-up site, that way you're not blocking anyone else....and lot of carry a separate hose to use when flushing......

What not to do !!

Many will add what to do its not rocket science but...... after 19 years of doing this RV thing I did the unthinkable. As always turn on spray open black tank valve let drain out turn off spray completely drain black tank close valve turn spray back on let tank fill for 5/6 mins drain again close valve turn spray on but this time I go into the tiki hut on my site that has a TV sit down start watching tube. (flush running black tank valve shut) I was going to do something oh well if it was important I would have remembered. To hot outside so into the motorhome I go.

Well lets watch some TV in the recliner facing the front I start smelling a fowl odor A couple of dishes in the sink no........the garbage needs emptying no....... wow this odor is bad I get up and see the river coming down the tile living area NOW I remember what I was doing run out of there like greased lightning open the black tank valve shut off spray into our camper I go towels on the floor thanks to dumb luck the motorhome was slightly leaning to the front what we will call water stayed on the tile very little on carpet cleaned all up and it could have been a lot worst.

All to say no rhyme or reason to this spray on /off empty refill dump again fill go to next stop let splash around in tank dump at next stop, put ice cubs in and drive around then dump IT DOES NOT MATTER what you come up with just dont overfill your blanktank After 19 years I never thought I could do this oh well...........
