Hitch problem. 2014 RAM, and 2004 R-Vision Trail Cruiser

What would cause the hitch to lift the truck up about 4 inches then drop it. The ball is the right size but the receiver doesn't let it go. I have tried greasing it and rocking the truck as I lift it, nothing helps. It's annoying because it messes with the transmission, it won't shift into drive after it does it. I have to shut the truck down and wait a few minutes . Then it shows it is in park. I have an electronic shifter. Does anyone have this problem and is there a fix to it?

I helped a fellow in an RV park with the disconnect issue ,

His was a 2 5/16 " ball and the , ball was on an angle , in the trailer tongue , so the trailer wouldn't lift off .
We had to slide the receiver out of the truck , and once we held the receiver/ ball , square under the tongue , it dropped right out.

It was only his first trip with the truck/trailer combo, and I don't know if he managed to get the issue dealt with , said he was taking it back to the dealer.

Just figured out it is not the hitch that messes with the transmission. Hooked up to the electric cable from the truck. Not actually hitched. And it did the same thing.

Factory trailer plug ?

Any way you could hook to a different trailer to see if you get the same condition.

Wow! I have an 04 R-Vision and a Tahoe, thankfully never yet had any issues with connecting or disconnecting from my weight distributing hitch. Maybe the ball angle is wrong? Or something inside the coupler area interfering with releasing the clamp... I have had a coupler problem with my small utility trailer coupler finding things blocking the release of the ball clamp, but never with my travel trailer.

Figured out it was the latch on the hitch was jammed. A wack with rubber mallet and some grease and it's all good now. Thanks for all the answers.
