2008 Weekend Warrior water leak help please

Hi,

I have a 2008 weekend warrior and age is starting to catch it.Today I found the fresh water tank outlet leaking at the seam of the integrated outlet for the main pex line that feeds the water pump.

I am hoping someone knows of a repair kit or that is a replaceable piece. This is my first issue with any of the holding tanks.

I enclosed a photo. For reference the leak originates at the tank for the outlet nipple.

Thank you very much for the help.

Ok. I thought about epoxy or jb weld but was hoping it was a replaceable fitting rather than spun weld (if that is the case). I have an email into a RV fitting place that sells a type of self tightening bulkhead type fitting.

I will keep the thread informed but definitely up to any advice.

Thank you
Joe

The tank construction is polyethylene and there are not very many epoxies on the market that are available for this application, that will hold. I've been doing quite a bit of reading and that is the common denominator, it being polyethylene and food grade perse.

I came across a company that sells a beginner kit for these types of repairs. The kit comes with the spin weld tool and a few bungs. My plan is to remove the old and patch it (included) and re-drill/relocate the new 1/2 FNPT not to far from the original placement.

Very simple 3-4 second procedure if you have the right tools.

This is the company I contacted in Adelanto Ca and the product they offer. Good deal considering one pro install tool is over 100.00 each. This allows for multiple sizes.

I know epoxy might work and hold, but the last thing I want is for it to decide to let go in the middle of a trip or in the desert and I am completely screwed. There is no coming back from a fresh water supply leak or loss of all your water.

Trip officially over.

Nice information on the kit. It will help numerous others will these issues.

There are also a few videos on youtube. The company I mentioned also has a short video on their site. Most people use a palm or full size router but for this tool a 4 1/2" die grinder is necessary.

Their proprietary tool screws onto the grinder unlike the pro tools that have a shaft.

I wanted to add a second vent line on my tank to eliminate the air pocket when filling at a tilt. I just drilled a hole and used a pipe thread tap. A few wraps of Teflon tape and screwed the fitting in. The tank is not under pressure so I wasn't concerned about 3/16 thread depth.

You can also buy fittings kits that would not require a spinweld tool. Might be easier than accessing with a 4.5 inch grinder. You drill a hole, press the flexible fitting into the tank, then the hard part. They are a pain to press the pipe into. They create a raised section of pipe/fitting, meaning you would not be able to access the very last drop of water.

Plastic welding is another option, but I never mastered that skill.

Thanks for the reply. If I had to add a fitting and not have the leak I'd attempt this.

Any chance you have a link to the fitting you are talking about?

Thank you
Joe

I had a set I didn't use but gave them to a friend, along with the old tank.
I went with the tapped hole because I wanted the additional vent close to the top of the tank, on the side. Using the fittings in the kit would have dropped it down too far.

Read the comments on the page for some install ideas/hints.
