HappiJac upper bunk

For those with the HappiJac bed lift system: The manual says to travel only with the upper bunk locked at the top, but is this really necessary? Anyone have any issues traveling with the upper bunk lowered? I want to use it for storage (with tie downs), but all the way at the top is too high.

If the manual says to leave it that way then I personally would. Most people want maximum space between the beds and the floor so I'm sure its not an issue for most. Good luck

How much weight are you talking about during storage? Have you checked to see how weight it will support for travel?

My personal take is that theyre not built well enough to carry anything going down the road. Why not just use the floor?

I have stored tables, ladders and once 2 - 8 kayaks.
I have not pinned it up at all.
Just remember your bunk wt rating.

I drilled holes about 18" down to relocate the pins from the top so I could use it for storage and still use the pins haven't had any problems

haveing added happijac systems and repaired a few...... i wouldn't do it. if you do then make your you pin the trollies to take the load off the chains and motor. you'll still have the load on the rails/walls. i hope the manufacturers designed in wall studs for the rails and they actually screwed into them when they installed that system!!!!!!
