Newbie Looking for Advice on a Small Toy Hauler

Hey All!

Super excited to join the group. I am looking for a toy hauler that has the following:

Small as possible that will sleep 4.

Only hauling mtn bikes/paddleboards for now, but will add a MX bike in the future.

Able to tow on fire roads and LIGHT off-roading.

I came across a used 2020 Jayco Octane Super Lite 161 for 26k.

Since I am a total newbie to this (I have done a good amount of research online) I would love to hear from anyone who has this trailer and if this is a good deal or not.

Thanks so much!

Welcome aboard! Lots of good info here. If you add your location to your profile folks can fine tune their info a bit better. Just watched a sales video of a 2020 model of the camper you're considering. They didn't give an overall length but seems like a great rig for weekend fun! You mentioned fire roads and light off-roading so I'd suppose boondocking is in your plan. You might look closely at clearance points like your waste tank dump valves. There was no mention of tank/water capacity in the video. Don't hesitate to upgrade your battery system and think about a suitcase type solar charging system. Your also mentioned sleeping for 4 but remember sleeping accommodations vary wildly by age group so plan accordingly! Looks like a great light use unit! Have fun and stay safe!

genesis supreme overnighter. fk model sleeps 4 ( 2 adults and 2 kids) with great ground clearance. 32' oal though so not sure on max length your looking for. most weigh 5000 lbs empty.

you could add a tent room to the back for more sleeping as well. like in one of these pics of the scorpion brand.

That Genesis is a really long wheelbase for any off roading, a requirement from the OP.

We've got a 21 foot Desert fox that would allow for 4+ people and you can get it out in the puckerbrush as it is short and high clearance. They also make a 17 footer that would sleep 4, just less room for gear.

We have a 2011 Jayco Octane super lite 161. It’s a great little toy hauler.!!! It’s fine for just the 2 of us, and we sometimes have the 2 grandkids so it easily sleeps 4. We haul a Yamaha 1100 Silverado without any problems. It weighs about 750#.. We can boondock for 4 days, hubby rigged 2 deep cycle batteries up front on the storage shelf behind the propane tanks that charge when the truck is hooked up. It serves us just fine and it’s not very heavy, easy to tow. Heading out on a 3 week trip to Sturgis this summer and on to Yellowstone, Glacier, and into Washington. . We got ours for a steal a few years ago for $6,500. Perfect condition, the plastic and cardboard were still in the convection/ microwave. They never used it. Slapped 4 new tires on it and we have really enjoyed it. It’s seem luxurious for us as we tent camped for 27 years. I think they are usually 27-30k new. Good luck and I hope you take the plunge!
