1982 Holiday Rambler Presidential 32 Wiring Schematic

I am new to this and I need some help. As soon as I connect my battery, a relay on the top left of the relays keeps tripping. I need to understand what could cause this and so I was hoping I could get a wiring schematic for this camper if at all possible. Any help on how to get my battery and charging system to work would be appreciated.

Welcome to iRV2 .

Hopefully we can provide some help .

But first a question . Relays don't trip , they activate .
By any chance is this a 12 volt self resetting circuit breaker , you're hearing ?

Also RV battery wiring can be quite different than automotive , white wires are often ground and black wires used for power , are you sure you're hooking the battery up correctly?

A picture of your problem area ( component ) would be a huge help.

Info on posting photos in this link.

Here are the photos requested. The relay that I circled is the one that keeps activating when I hook up the battery.

Wink

Does it click once, or does it keep clicking on and off? Do you have a car battery charger connected instead of a converter/charger? When I purchased my ‘97 HR Vacationer, it had a car charger instead of a converter/charger and the dirty power it supplied caused relay cycling and overheating. A new converter/charger fixed that problem .

Ok , thanks for the pictures .

All these items in the picture are , self re-setting 12 volt circuit breakers .

I'm going to download your pictures , do some marking , and repost .

I'm back ; given that the wire on the battery looks like it was painted white at one time , that should be the ground wire , and the battery should be hooked up correctly ; BUT , it wouldn't hurt to trace it ( yellow arrow wire )to the frame .

The connection studs on the circuit breaker that's tripping should be marked ,batt ( battery) and aux ( auxiliary ). With the battery disconnected , lube the stud , remove the nut and take the wire off. Probably the wire with the red arrow.
Once you have the wire removed , hopefully that will allow you to hook up the battery without anything tripping.
If you can get the rest of the trailer 12 volt systems working you can figure out what's shorted out causing the C/B to trip. As the 12 volt system that's not operational .

The wire; in the second picture; with the yellow arrow , should be the direct power wire from the battery , the white arrow wire probably the charge wire from the converter . We can look into those when you've figured out what systems ( 12 volt ) work , and what doesn't.

That first wire on the left is detached from the relay. I did replace the converter as it was not putting out power to charge the battery and so that is done. As soon as I hook up the wire again it starts kicking it on and off. So my question is, how do I know where that last black wire that I took off goes to and what’s shorting it out?

So with the wire that I marked with the red arrow off , and the battery connected , everything is stable ( no CIRCUIT BREAKERS tripping), can you go through the trailer and test 12 volt systems ?

Can you plug in the trailer to shore power and check that the converter is supplying , charge voltage to the battery?

Because that wire ( red arrow ) runs out to the left side and all others go to the right , I believe you'll find all interior 12 volt systems are operational.
Tracing the shorted wire , will depend on finding the non operational 12 volt system . Does this trailer have any 12 volt jacks , or other non interior 12 volt systems?

All the interior 12v systems are working. It seems to be an exterior 12v system so I will have to see what’s not working when I test it all tomorrow. Thank you

The charging system is working now and well. I just need to follow that wire and see what’s shorting out.

Just re-post , if you need any more ideas on tracking the short .

Do you have a 12 volt test light and a multi meter ?

I have test light. I should get a volt meter or something to test voltage correct?
