2 battery boxes don't fit. Ok to go sand boxes?

Getting ready for a trip to Kansas.
Just bought a second battery and box for our tt. Both batteries fit in the tray behind the propane tanks, but without the battery boxes.
Is it ok to skip the boxes?
I am going to Wally world to see if I can find a smaller second box. The new battery is very roomy in the new box.
Other option is get some angle iron and bolt together a new tray above the OEM tray. It is set down in the a frame, so it ain't getting even a mm bigger.

Covering the wiring connections is always a good idea , not only from road gunk , but , any dropped metal tool or equipment that might short the terminals.

When I ran into an issue when I went to two six volt batteries I just used the top of the boxes to cover the terminals and used a second strap on on the tops to keep them there

That's a good plan b or so.
Struck out at Walmart. Will try a local rv dealer nearby. Maybe a double box if there be such a critter.
For sure better cover those terminals with me around.

I had extra angle iron welded so I could put in a larger battery box. So far so good.

I think you might have trouble with your battery life with two different battery capacities.

x2.
And I wouldn't mess with boxes. Just close the lid. I used a similar type box on a TT we had. Zero issues. I did drill some holes in the back part for ventilation and the bottom to run some straps around each battery.

I had the same problem. I have two 6 volt golf cart batteries and not enough room on the tongue for seperate battery boxes. I ended up ordering a dual GC2 battery box from Century plastics. Not cheap but works very well.

That's exactly what I got. Been using it on my trailer for the past 2 years without any problems. They are not cheap but I would buy it again.

I ended up slapping together a ply wood box. Both batteries fit barely.
And the ply box I'd a wiggle and jiggle to get it into the frame.
Haft to put the batteries in after the box is in. Gotta tilt and slide them a bit. Not gonna be easy to steel. Our heads are just inches away at nite, and the dog hears and alerts real good.
It was just a slam it together box. We were leaving in a few days and the we're other task that had to be done also.
The lid would not fit so I cut the back of it off and put some roofing underlaying on it to carry any rain over the back and below the box proper.
Did not encounter more than a few drops do far.
Also have not really needed the batteries for more than a few minutes while setting up or rebooking to the truck. Had full hook ups so far. But plenty of battery juice makes wife feel better.
The box won't go in come out with wight distribution attachemens mounted. That is why the blue masking tape is on the trailer frame. I wanted to know exactly were to reattach them at.

I can and will do better latter.

Still need to install a power inverter and 4 dedecared sockits of it. 1 each side of the bed for our Cpap and bipap machines. On for mom's oxygen concentrator. And in the gally so we can power a crock pot sitting in the sink cooking our dinner while cruising down the highway.

And while installing dedecated sockits, may as well install DC 12 volt sockets also we're we have machines to plug in at night. They will be more effeceint on 12 volt versus useing an inverter.

as RROLDSX mentioned--better to have 2 matched batteries in size/ah capacity. Ok for now, but if you ever want to get new ones, really suggest you match them up.
