Converter charging batteries?

I've also read about the converter charging batteries - where are these batteries usually located?

The battery is usually on the front of the 'A' frame and behind the propane tanks.

Thanks! There's a spot, but no battery box , but I did find the cables tucked up underneath the trailer. I'll see about getting a battery and box there as I'm going through stuff and getting it fixed up!

Good you found where it should be. RV batteries come is 3 sizes. Group 24 (the smallest) Group 27 (mid sized) and Group 29/31 (the largest size). Each size has a capacity. The bigger the battery the better.
Initially the cost was $109 for group 24, $119 for group 27 and $129 for group 29/31. If buying a new battery buy the bigger battery. It will give more power longer and last longer.

The above is flooded lead acid batteries.

Now there are AGM batteries and lithium ion batteries. Probably need special charger for these.

To buy a battery box West Marine or Tractor Supply are two places I would try.

Good luck

You could also install 2 6 volt GC2 golf car batteries . They get wired in series for 12 volt use.

They are built for many more recharges then GP24, 27, or 31s.

May cost you less to.

I agree two 6V golf cart batteries hooked to give 12v will be better than any 1 12v battery.

Hi,

Well, I've developed a new problem. The Parallax 7300 converter has died.
I pulled it and the capacitors are toast, and two of the transistors are shorted and the internal fuse is blown.
I know this is old stuff, but not nearly as old as the computers I repair.
The drop in replacement is $300+.
I'm making a parts list to see what it'll cost to do a repair. Looks like $25 in parts.
I also found this 55 amp converter on Amazon for $149
https://www.amazon.com/RecPro-Conver...509&psc=1&th=1
This supplies the 55 amps DC from 120V shore power. It should easily connect to the 12V fuse panel in place now.
Thoughts on this replacement vs. rebuild?

Parallax 7300 series converter replacement

Well, I just purchased a Pm3-55MBA from Amazon after talking to the folks at powermaxconverters.com

I'll let you all know how it goes once I get it all installed!

I'm still planning on fixing the old one at some point, but I'm having a problem sourcing the capacitors, so that'll have to be a later on project.

The PowerMax converter is in!

Hi all - just a quick update - I got the converter installed.

It was pretty straightforward - there were just a couple of things that needed done.

I had to add a piece of wood since the old case would have limited the fan/airflow of the new converter.

http://eanubis.net/2004TrailBay/Converter_WoodAdded.jpg

The new converter has the wires on the opposite side compared to the old one. It took some creative routing to get the red and white wires to connect, but they do leave them longer than usual - so that was good.

I also added a loop and heatshrink tubing to the end of the red wire to fit on the old connector properly.

The new 55 AMP converter states that it needs to be connected to a 30AMP breaker, when the old converter (also 55AMP) was connected to a 20AMP breaker - as the tag on the wire stated.

I don't have a 30 AMP breaker available as that breaker is being used to run the power to the panel, so I connected it back to the 20AMP breaker. All of the interior lighting has been switched to LED, and we're not charging any batteries, so I doubt that it will exceed 20AMPS at any point.
