A/C: Ducted or non-ducted

In a 22-24' trailer, how important do you consider Ducted A/C system v. a non ducted unit blowing from the center? Both units are roof mounted.

We are comparing a Rockwood Mini Lite 2109s to a Coachman Freedom Express 192rbs.

Your comfort is important. I personally would check each model out for a/c performance, if that issue is high on your list.

As George mentions above, the performance of each should be of high importance. In only a 22-24' trailer the non-ducted should perform well. The ducted unit may have an additional feature of a ceiling vent in the bathroom - this can be a benefit! :-) Secondly is noise.. I think overall you will find ducted units to be somewhat quieter than non-ducted simply due to the segregated airflow at various places throughout the trailer vs being concentrated from one central point mid-coach.

One thing we like with our ducted air in our 25 ft. TT is in the kitchen/living area, we can rotate the cieling vents to blow the air where want it. Plus our bedroom is fairly divided from the rest of the TT, so i think there weren't vents in there i doubt if much air would get back there.

Ducted is always better. And I think the Freedom Express is a better unit than the Rockwood also.

My experience with the trailers I have owned is that non ducted is fine for wide open trailers. If walls or curtains are used then your air flow will be blocked. In the Texas heat ac is essential for us. Small fans may help out but will only be a bandaid.

We have found ducted to be a lot quieter and the ability to point the vents for us is also a nice feature.

We have ducted in main area and non ducted in bedroom. The ducted fan (Coleman) is fine, the non ducted fan (Coleman) has low and high and something is not wired right because low is hurricane force and high is typhoon force. Non ducted temperature control is manual not thermostat (too difficult to weave wiring through ceiling and down wall) and I knew that and that was fine.

The fan noise on the non ducted literally blocks every other noise out (barking dogs, diesel units leaving ultra early, any outside noise). I will check wiring and see what the fan motor winding choices are, or get a motor controller to get the fan noise back within acceptable levels.

Point is find what you are looking at and turn it on to be sure you can live with it BEFORE you accept it.

Why not both in one unit? I have a 2014 Jayco Jay Flight 32BHDS. I have the 15k AC. My trailer has the roof ducts, but also has what Jayco (maybe others too) I think call quick cool. It is basically just ports on the AC that you can open or close. I can basically open these ports that basically make it non-ducted, then once it starts getting cooler in the main living area, I can close those ports (or leave one or two of the three open) and send the cool air into the roof ducts. It really cools the whole trailer really fast this way.

Had non ducted in a 19 ft, worked well, but noisy, now have ducted in a 25 ft with a closed off bedroom, works very well and is much quieter

I own a 2012 Rockwood 2109s non ducted system. It word fine no issues. But recently my neighbor purchased a 2014 model same trailer, it has combined heating ant ducted system. One advantage would be both systems are thermostatically controlled and it's quieter for sure

We had had both types and the ducted units are much quieter and thermostat controlled. You can also adjust the vents or shut them off.

Believe it or not, there are NON ducted w/wall t-stat systems. Very rare, but there.
