A/C filter change interval

I have to put a new filter in my ac about every 5 or 6 days. The dust is very bad down here in south texas. We are in harlingen texas with the temp around 115 and no rain.how often do you put in a new filter with this kind of weather.

As often as it gets dirty..........

Dirty filter causes low air flow, overloads fan motor, lack of cooling, evap coil freezing up

It best to have standby filters so you can swap out dirty for clean and then clean/dry dirty so it is ready to be used

Every 5 or 6 days is definitely excessive. No matter what's going on outside, it should not be like this if the door, windows, and vents are normally closed. Filters will sometime get dirty looking fairly quickly but that doesn't necessarily mean they need changing. Some actually filter better as they begin to trap.

It sounds like you're actually replacing the filter and if so, your best bet may be to buy a re-useable filter that can be washed. You might also get a few more days before changes if you installed a washable thin foam type filter ahead of the main filter you have now.

Yikes - if you have wheels get the heck outta there. Dirty hot air is no place to stay IMHO. There has to be a better place to stay.

With the washable foam filters, when living full-time in the RV, I found that they need to be cleaned every 2 to 3 weeks.

Maybe a thin foam pre-filter that can be thrown away weekly and help keep the main filter clean longer? DR
