Advice for towing

I have a 2016 F150 2.7 ecoboost with max tow package and I need to know how much trailer I can move up to if I decide to get more living space. Right now my trailer weight is 5300 and I have 1600lb payload and it seems to pull okay. Truck;s curb weight is 4600 and I have 12,500 GCWR. We travel light and do no boondocking. Its just me and the wife and small dog. If I move up to the 3.5 would that help?

Is that trailer weight of 5300lbs when it's loaded? You have 1600lb payload capacity for your truck or is that how much you can add to the trailer?

5300 lb trailer and can add 900=6200
4600 lb truck and with a payload of 1600
Ford says I can tow 7500lbs so if i max out the above numbers i will be over a tad; so I guess my trailer with current truck is about as heavy as i can get, is that correct?

If you go over on anything you're just asking for trouble at some point! Your fully loaded trailer will have about 745 lbs. tongue weight, then add everything else your putting in the truck plus hitch and leave 10-20% for safety and see where your payload is. I'd say if you want a bigger trailer you'll need a bigger truck!
