Backup camera
Our son has a 26 ft travel trailer and we want to get him a wireless backup camera for his upcoming birthday. We have a motorhome which came with a camera system but know nothing about wireless cameras for trailers. Would like to keep the cost under $150. Any suggestions/information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Robert

backup camera vs rear view camera
Backup cameras come with a wider angle of view. On mine I can see my rear trailer bumper. There are endless backup systems available. It is not good for watching traffic behind the trailer.
Rear view cameras have a narrower view. You can see traffic behind you. There are far fewer of these easily available.
I use a Garmin backup camera. (See the Garmin website.) I have a Garmin RV770 GPS. The Garmin camera displays on the large GPS screen. I don't need an additional screen in my tow vehicle.
Since your son has a travel trailer, he will want a wireless system so he does not have to run a signal cable from the camera to the tow vehicle. They usually connect to 12 volt DC in the trailer and connect wireless to the display in the tow vehicle.
I wish you good luck and happy trails ahead.

I know many hate Furrion but I have a wireless Furrion backup cam. Been on the TT for 3 seasons. I use it the whole time while traveling, not just when backing up.
I installed it up high on the back of the TT and wired it into one of the rear marker lights.
The monitor sticks to the windshield via a suction cup and is plugged into a 12V socket. The monitor stays stuck for weeks as I don't always remove it after a trip.
Turn the parking lights on and the camera turns on.
TT is 31' and add another 15' so the cam and monitor are about 45-46' apart.

I'm thinking of one also. so have you had any problems with reception. i have a n in dash navigation system that uses its own brand camera, but its wired. its not really a problem to hook up. its just that i hear of problems with wireless. i have wireless TPM's with a booster and they work sometimes and sometime not.

I also have a Furrion and have had no problems with reception. TT is 30 feet overall and TV is a crew cab short bed.

Vakry. Hi-res. Easy install. They also will give you a second camera for free if you ask. $150 on Amazon.

the one thing that i don't like about aftermarket ones is you have to find a place to mount the monitor, and no i'm not going to stick it on top of my dash. i'm leaning more to the wired one to my in dash system. i will need to run a wire and be able to disconnect it at the hitch. then the camera is only about 80.00

We use the Furrion camera system on our 45 foot Road Warrior. We tow with a 3500 Ram, so we are a good distance from camera to monitor. No issues going down the road with the exception of the wife. She would look at the camera and say "they look like they are getting close to the rear", so to solve this issue I only now use the camera for backing into a spot.
