Ball Mount Drop Size?

The top of the receiver is 23" on my truck and the bottom of the trailer hitch is 18 1/2". Should I get a 4" or 6" dropped ball mount?

No idea, depends how much the trailer tongue is pushing down on the truck.

How much tongue weight, how much rear suspension capacity, what do you plan on loading in the truck, especially the bed? You might only need a couple of inches drop when you're loaded up depending on your weights.

if you have a 2.5 or 3" receiver, get the shank to fit what you have on your truck.
DON"T use the receiver 2.5 to 2" adapter and the slightly curved hitch pin if your towing any weight.

Getting the shank to fit your receiver and a straight hitch pin, will save you from making the hitch pin hole oval when the adapter and curved hitch pin flop around.

I can send you pictures to show you how I know this.

I would figure the weight of the trailer tongue to push the truck down maybe 3" or even 4". Maybe get a 2" drop/raise.

My truck did come with the 2.5" to 2" adapter. I could not find a hitch for a 2.5" receiver without getting the adjustable type on Amazon.

I am guesstimating the tongue weight to be around 1,000 pounds.

I know you don't want this one Blue Ox Shank, because it's way too long for your application, however, I found that using various search terms in Amazon yielded different results. This looks like a complete hitch assembly in the picture but it's only the shank, and costing less than other places including other sellers on Amazon. Personally, I think the search tool in Amazon is the worst on the Internet, with maybe the exception of "shopping.com"

Search for Shank may give different results than searching for stinger, or receiver, or drop hitch.

Etrailer has a selection as well but the price may be up.

I ended up on Amazon when the local trailer places either didn't have what I needed or wanted $150 more than what was on Amazon.

When I had the adapter, I noticed some clunking over bridges when the truck went down and the trailer went up.

My question is solved. The dealer will be installing a weight distribution/sway hitch that has adjustable heights.

I ended up having a 6" drop. Boy is the hitch ball section heavy. I was surprised when I took it off my truck.

If your solution involves unsing the adapter, save your self some headache and get a straight pin for the shank. The slight curve on the shank pin may work it's way back to the hitch and make the hole oval.

Get a straight pin like this
Hitch pin on Amazon

I did that already which was paired (same key) to the lock for the trailer hitch coupler.
