Battery Box Needed for Lithium Battery

I just purchased a 206 AH SOC Lithium battery that’s much larger than my current lead acid battery which is stored in a 24 series box on my 22’ TT. I can’t seem to find a battery box that fits the new larger battery.

Here are the battery specs:

Footprint Dimensions (LxW) 11.42 x 7.87 Inches
Overall Dimensions Including Handles & Terminals (LxWxH) 13.38 x 9 x 11.02
Weight 47.6 lbs

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I removed my original 24 series battery and replaced it with a bigger battery from battery’s plus. 34 series I think the number was. At the time they sold me a bigger battery box to go with it. So what I’m trying to say is if you have a battery’s plus store near you I bet they can match it. If not there are many stores like auto parts etc that should be able to match it. Hope I’m not leading you on a wild goose chase but it’s a start.

Or, you could consider moving it into the pass thru near the battery disconnect switch. Then reroute the wires that now go to the tongue back under and up through the loom where it enters the underside of the trailer. Then just strap the battery down. Mounting inside also allows you to have a short cable run if you later decide to install an inverter.

Putting the battery in the pass-through keeps it warm and keeps it secure. You will want a shunt-based battery monitor too, and you can put that in the pass-through also.

Perfect! The salesperson who sold me the battery had suggested buying a toolbox of some sort, but I didn't know where to look. Both of the suggestions you provided will fit. Thank you for taking the time to provide a link.

Now there's an interesting idea that I hadn't considered - especially since I had some concerns about theft of a battery mounted externally. It's a small TT and I only have one pass-thru that's well used. I'll have to see if I can make room for the battery inside when it arrives without sacrificing too much precious space needed for other things.

"Putting the battery in the pass-through keeps it warm and keeps it secure. You will want a shunt-based battery monitor too, and you can put that in the pass-through also."

I was already planning on putting the DC-DC charger in the pass-through and I have a bluetooth shunt coming as well. Does it make even more sense, therefore, to install all of them there?

It will be a little awkward accessing the battery if I put it in the pass-through.
But I'm assuming since the lithium battery requires no maintenance that should not be an issue?

One thing to look at is if your pass through has a divider in it. Most do that separate the pass through from the rat's nest of wires and hoses that usually reside behind the aft divider. I cleaned up that area and that's where I put my inverters and solar charge controllers.

Depending on where your bed is, you could consider putting it there. That space is useful but sometimes hard to access.

Remember that you can put your battery on its side if that helps it fit the space.

I put a toolbox in the original battery tray on the tongue, too. It was hard to open, but was helpful. Maybe a simple basket for chocks and things would have been useful instead of the toolbox.

Another plus for moving the battery into the pass thru storage: it will be warmer there, if you do any cold weather camping, Lithium won't charge below freezing

That's also an interesting option - to put everything under my bed. The bed is at the front of the TT right over the pass-through, and I don't have much stored there. A much less used space than my pass-through!

I'm in the northeast and do camp in colder weather. The fact that I can continue charging with solar should the temps get chilly with the battery
under my bed would be another plus. The battery comes with an automatic temperature shutoff so I would be protected should it get too cold even indoors.

I never thought to put the battery anywhere other than in the outside spot where my current battery resides. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll play with the options once the battery arrives next week.

Is anyone else concerned about the security of an expensive lithium battery stored outside the TT?

I’m always concerned about theft, but my background affects me. Grew up in Detroit where theft was an everyday occurrence and a long career in law enforcement. I don’t think like most people. That aside I remove my battery when I store the trailer and keep it in the covered bed of my pickup. I charge it at least monthly and if I keep it there I won’t forget it when I return to the trailer. It also provides good security for my expensive items I leave in the trailer. I keep the EMS unit and my equalizer hitch under my bed. It’s totally inaccessible when my slide is closed. If someone broke in they might take the tv and small items but never know what’s hidden under the bed without being able to open the slide.

I put ours inside the trailer.

We use the old battery box on the tongue for storing wheel chocks and levelers now.
