We ran into this several times at our dealership. It usually involved someone forgetting to open the correct drain valve. There is no relief valve. The water will go out the vent. Or Rupture the tank. Or Blow out the vent line. Most of the time it only escaped through the vent. If it blew out the vent, you will know because you will start smelling sewage in the coach. If you get no sewage smell, you are good to go. Just check for leaks. (Showing the tank ruptured.) If no leaks, let the coach dry out and you are OK.

Not sure the manual will help much. In my Forest River Manual, it just say 'Connect hose here to flush black tank' with an arrow to a diagram/picture. That's it, no other information.
I usually find a travel trailer manual isn't worth the ink and paper used to make it. Probably has more value to start a camp fire when you are out of kindling.

You need to drop the belly pan and look at the tank. I would bet you have split the tank either at the top edge OR the drop pipe has broken off from the tank top. I did that once when I shut the valve and walked away and forgot. I have never seen the water go out the top vent but I have seen the tank split.

Jeez, a guy puts his mistake out there and others want to bust his balls... I like your and tuffr2's ideas. I don't have a flush, but understand how they work. My solution is to not do things like multi tasking when I'm flushing that particular tank, especially when tired. I've made many of the same mistakes in his situation. Hope we can give the guy some slack, and thank him for sharing an embarrassing story so we can all learn from it. Thanks, OP!

I frequently use a free dump station at a rest top near home, they have a 3/8" cut end water hose on a timer, to rinse stuff. I bought a 3/8 barb to garden hose adapter so I can use it for a quick flush.
I leave this fitting connected to my flush connection, just to reduce the odds that I connect my water hose to the wrong port.

I painted the black tank flush fitting orange and I use a bright orange hose for black tank flush I think it's made by camco.

There is no way to mark the black tank flush if tired imho. The mistakes I make when tired are bad. Even a well marked black tank flush does not mean I would even see the markings.
Like they say on ESPN PTI - I will try do better next time.
