Blue Tarps

I made the mistake of covering my trailer with a blue Tarp.
I loosely wrapped it for air flow over the winter and and uncovered it to find black spots on the side panels and back of my trailer. They will not rub off. Any reason why they appeared and how do I get rid of them.

Hi and welcome to iRV2.

What have you used to try cleaning it off? Are these black spots mold? If so I have found TSP (trisodium phosphate) to work well on mold. If its not mold some photos might help identify the problem.

What camper do you have and what are the sides, fiberglass, aluminum?

I would guess mold. Otherwise, you might try black streak remover.

most likely a black mould, ie organic. I would try applying bleach, full strength. the black should dissolve and rinse away with water. then leave in strong sunlight to apply UV, or zap overnight with a high-intensity UV lamp. repeat if mould returns - then consider painting with an anti-mould primer, then colour coat. [mould is amazingly resilient and persistent]. good luck!

Wet and Forget - spray on, you're done. It does take a few days for the mold stains to disappear, but they will and it does a much better job of killing mold than bleach

I am of the tarping ilk also. I end up with some black rubs every spring. I have always used Black Streak Remover. Just don't get it on graphics though. Spray a little on a sponge and they always rub right off.

So if not mold,.... combination of dye used in mfg of "blue tarps" and dirt being transferred by movement of tarps against the RV?

blue tarp

so basically it is just the beating of the tarp on the fiberglass finish leaving "wear" marks

tough lesson learned.

DO NOT USE A TARP ESPECIALLY BLUE
