Love 'em or hate 'em. We have four cable slides. Two work well, one is OK and the 4th and longest is a pure piece of junk. I've spent hours adjusting the cables and it seems to be working decently without any strange noises. BUT, that LR slide sags. It's 13 feet lond and heavy. There are no rollers under it, only what is called a slide bar made out of some sort of engineering plastic. That slide bar has collapsed, a well known problem. I will fix it after the camping season os over.

Schwintek - no history with them other then seeing someone stuck at a rest stop with a parially extended slide and a stripped drive gear and jammed slide cocked in the opening.

The last 5er had a Lippert rack and pinion slide. They worked great once I fixed the mfrs screwed up electrics and realigned the mechanism

Is your motor above your slide there's a chain that connects to the cable, its probably lose and skipping on the sprocket. go on line and Google how to adjust, its fairly easy once you understand how it works.

Iím shocked to hear that anyone has ever had a problem with their slide mechanism. I feel confident that all manufacturers are committed to building the highest quality units they can. My understanding is that no expense is spared to avoid problems during construction and that any defects discovered by quality control are all repaired to the highest standard.
I also believe in the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus.

Well considering the repairs were undertaken ;
First at the RV manufacturer's factory. Warranty repair .
Second at the RV manufacturer's rally .Warranty repair
Third at a designated manufacturer repair facility. $$$
By a different RV tech each time , involving the same side of the same slide , JMHO ; A Schwintek problem.

We have a Schwintek slide in our master and it has worked as designed for four camping seasons without an issue. It is important to follow the manufacturer's recommended operating procedures (never open partially and hold down button for a few seconds after fully extended or fully closed) and maintenance schedule to maintain the system properly. YMMV

I have a Schwintek slide and have not had a single issue. I regularly stop midway out and then bring it back without issues and the only time I need to hold the button after it has stopped moving is to re-set the clocking mechanism inside the motors so they are both in sync. 3 years and counting and hundreds of cycles so far.

Who installed it and who repaired it has a lot to do with how well it operates and there is definitely a weight limit for each type of slide.

Not long after I bought my Voltage, Dutchmen dumped Schwintek for cable slides due to all the problems with Schwintek. Tiffin still uses Schwintek in their hugely expensive motorhomes. One of their reps told me that if the slide isn't made properly there will be problems with the Schwintek system.

Schwintek works fine on smaller slide outs, like a dinette, for instance. Hydraulics or cable system are best for larger slide outs provided they are also on rollers. Lack of proper maintenance is what kills most slides.
