We have a CB in our MH, but rarely use it. Too much bad language and not enough good information these days.

I have a nice ham rig but only keep it around in the event there are hurricanes, etc... there really isnt anyone to talk too that you can't just call on your cell or find on those family radios....

I never travel with out it. Saved me a few traffic jams. I am not easily offended by a few curse words.

I have two CB's in my motor home (Well technically 3)
One on Chan 19,, has warned me of a couple of issues on the road ahead helping me to avoid either a hours long traffic jam in one case or being involved in an accident on another (instead of fixing fenders I got paid to take others home since their cars were toast).
One on 13, the good sam's channel
One hand held, without battries,, in a cupboard somewhere Turned OFF!

I had been wondering the same lately as we have seen some pretty ugly traffic around dallas, waco and austin .
I want one but as noted, the language isnt family friendly. I was not aware of channel 13, its it utilized much?

The concept of ch13 is great. The problem is very few people use it. I don't know why not. Besides, if there is a traffic problem you'll hear about it faster on the trucker channel 19.
Even if every RVer out there used ch13 sometimes they are just spread out too thin to be effective traffic monitors.
There are a lot of apps out there for both android and apple that give you traffic in real time.

I use mine when traveling with others much easier and quicker to communicate, plus everyone in the vehicle can hear it. Haven't used it much when traveling as a single vehicle

I just ordered a new Cobra 29 classic and Wilson 1000 whip.
CBs are relatively cheap and you can use them when you want/need, leave them off the rest of the time. Just seems like good fun and can be helpful when needed.
While CBs are dying out for truckers on 19, I think they are slowly growing for RVers on 13... and the off road 4x4 guys are usually on 4, I think.
The bad language is a bit of an issue, but I think even most truckers don't promote it and seem to ignore the few foul-mouths. Just know what to expect on 19 if the kids are in the car.
See the sticky thread in the General Discussion about CB 13.

If you do decide to get one, make sure to spend more on the antenna than a fancy radio.
Getting the signal over and/or around your trailer can be an issue if you have metal siding. Much less with fiberglass.
