Chocks for parking on a brutal hill?

The place we will camp at 98% of the time has many spots that are on a really steep downward slope. Sometimes we will need 8" to 9" of wood under our tandems and set the tongue on the ground. I don't trust wedge wheel chocks sitting on wood with such a steep incline.

We've been using the yellow Camco Wheel Stop and they've worked well, but they're just a little too small for the 7" tire gap on our new camper.

Has anyone used either of the 2 following chocks? Will they hold on a really steep hill?

Or am I thinking about this wrong? Since the goal is to have the camper level, after it's off of the trailer ball and sitting level it has no more tendency to roll down hill as opposed to sitting on level ground regardless of how steep the grade is?

yes you are, if the wheels are on a down hill slope that's were they are going to go. its just like parking your car on a hill. this is what I would do only get the steel x chocks with some grip nubs on them to seat into the tire .they say they aren't to be use as a chock, but combined with chocks similar to below is going to be about as good as you can get. just chocks up against the wheel will slip on loose ground like most camp sites.

I agree with J D. The physics of the situation tend to say you are good. However, there is always the unexpected.

In this case I would say a stack of wood blocks is the weak point. The stack rolling over or sliding apart under duress is something to consider. Once off the blocks rolling can commence due to the steep slope.

Screwing, gluing, and/or bolting blocks together is a start. Making sure the bottom block is much longer than the axle spacing so if some movement occurs, the TT is still up on the block stack. Building the downhill side of the top block up to serve as attached chocks can be a big help. Remember widening the block stack in case of unexpected side loading.

How safe do you want it to be. High winds? Delivery truck bumping the TT off the blocks? Or, the dreaded totally unexpected event.

Many years back my Dad decided he had enough of the boards sliding. He stacked up boards (2X8s IIRC) of various lengths into a tapered ramp. He then used a small drill thru top board corners into the one below. When the holes where all marked with 1/8 inch hole, the top 1/2 of each hole was drilled out to 3/8 inch. Then the bottom he drove a screw, leaving it sticking out 1/4 inch or so. When stacked the screws fit in holes so could not slip.
