Sounds like some sort of gear issue or a sensor on the motor. Its intermittent failure. Makes quite a racket when trying to retract. Extends well.
Model is 9100E (Electric)

If its a 9100 series, there's an aluminum extrusion inside the roller that attaches to the motor......single nut holds the two together....if nut loosens up, the aluminum piece shaft hole can round out.....there are utube videos on motor removal....
One other thing.....is it hot where you are when this happened?? The 9100 awnings has a tendency to overheat the motor with too high a draw for the small wire they used going to the motor. I replaced 3 motors and 2 control boxes on my last Weatherpro till we figured out that the wire to the motor was undersized and would cause the motor to time out due to overheating....just asking
