Dryer outlet

Hi. I have a travel trailer that is 30 amp. I am connected to a single outlet 50 amp outlet at the pedestal, via adapter. How could I run 240v for my dryer?

Why a 240v dryer in a 30 amp RV? It would be way cheaper to put a 120v dryer in......

Uh... if you have a 30 amp connection on your TT, there is no 240V service for a residential clothes dryer available in your trailer. The TT30 is a 120V only service; 1 line (hot leg), 1 neutral, 1 ground.

If your dryer was installed by the trailer manufacturer it is a 120V model.

This is assuming the dryer is out in a shed.

Buy this to plug into the pedestal and then 1 more adaptor.
You will need a 50 amp 120/240 volt to 30 amp 120/240 volt adaptor to plug in the dryer.
You already have the 50 amp to 30 amp TT adaptor.
You may need to limit power to 20 amps in your trailer while the dryer is running.Click image for larger version

I had no idea they sold adapters like that. I have my TT on permanent dock. I'm doing all the research I can, and I thank you.

Because I already had the washer / dryer set, and I had rebuilt the dryer. They are full size, and fit snugly in the bunkhouse slideout. (I had to take down then put back up the bathroom wall to get them back there.)

might be better off to convert your trailer to 50 amp and hook it up properly.. Install a new 50 amp distribution center, new cable from distribution center to shore power, new shore power cable. Then it is done properly and resell will be much easier if you ever need to sell.

Simple fix would be to buy a small breaker box and install it into a compartment.
Then create a new 50 amp shore cord to it.

Now you can install a 120 volt TT30 amp outlet and a 14-30 outlet for the dryer.

How close is a Laundromat?
I would use it until you know for sure what you are doing. I believe the washer will be ok to use but not the dryer. I had a stacked washer/dryer in my 50 amp 5th wheel. I had a toggle to turn other items off if I was using the washer/dryer.

I figured I had a 70 amp 5th wheel but could only use 50 amps at a time.

Do you know how many amps you need to run the dryer? If bought new there might be a sticker on it telling you.

I would advise turning everything else off especially the A/C before trying it. You are likely to trip a breaker somewhere if it is pulling to many amps.

Good luck

This certainly has the potential to end badly.

Twinboat has the best idea. That is running separate connections.

Or buy a newer RV that is 50amp and already has a washer/dryer installed from the factory/dealer. I did see a few travel trailers that had a washer/dryer option.

The OP has his trailer permanently placed in a spot and he fit a washer & dryer in it.
I don't think he is in a position to go out and buy a newer 50 amp trailer and have it swapped into his spot.

You can have any trailer at a perm spot swapped out if you can afford it.
