Dump Valve Security Solution

Twice now someone pulled both gray and black valves while my trailer was parked. It either happened at the campground or while the trailer was parked in front of our house overnight.

Luckily, this being a nightmare scenario, I always check before dumping. Nothing like having a homer bucket handy!

Does anyone have a mod idea to keep idle hands away from them when unattended?

No, but leave that black tank full. Whoever it is will only do that once more. However, they will be leaving you a big surprise too.

Law requires that you have a twist on cap on the outlet. How is leaving the tank full going to be a nasty surprise for anyone?

Never heard of anything like this before.

I do admit to worrying that someone will turn on the water to my black tank rinse, so when leaving for an extended period I disconnect the rinse hose.

Don’t you normally dump before leaving the campground? How many days on the road before getting home?

Don't the T handles unscrew. Hard to pull on a threaded nub.

Mine has a locking door. I also added a locking door to my fresh water fill because I am paranoid about kids getting bored and screwing with my fresh water. The door won't prevent someone from doing something bad but I will know if it was tampered with.

If your T handle top is threaded, remove it and get a threaded rod coupler and then attach an eye bolt. Thread a cable through and then make a loop on each end with cable clamps. Lock the valve in the closed position.

The eyebolt would be small so the cable would also be small and easily cut but I would think it would be too much trouble for anyone to mess with in passing.

If your handle is not threaded it's quite easy to replace the valves with one that is threaded.

Or you could just use 2 hose clamps to clamp a cable across the T handle. Put a loop on each end and then lock the handle in the closed position. Again, easy to overcome but too much trouble for someone to do in passing.

Ok, that's enough thinking for me today.

If you had a clear 45 or 90 degree elbow attached, you'd be able to see if some surprise was awaiting you...

Holy smokes, that is not good. I never had that happen to me luckily. I did have a clearance light on my dually fender stolen at a home depot one time.

I guess if the cap is on and you check the valves and it is open, you can close it to lessen somewhat the damage of a spill.

With a Wi-Fi enabled camera you can at least semi secure it at your house. Get the warning on your phone if someone messes with your stuff.

I closed them and caught whatever had gotten stuck between the valves and the cap in a bucket. It wasn’t too bad as the distance between the valves and cap is apparently much shorter on the Creekside than it was on the Nash.

It was 3/4 full. I think they meant for me to get a surprise when undoing the cap. Luckily I always double check before unscrewing it.

Problem is by making it harder for them, you make it harder for you too.

I have a Ring Floodlight Cam that covers the driveway. Interesting animals and stuff happens at night.
