Easy fix of Norcold refrigerator

On our Spring shakedown cruise the Norcold fridge wouldn't come on. The green light would show for a moment then a red light started blinking. Looking at the manual, I realized the blinking light was actually a trouble code. 10 blinks before a short pause indicated a communication error. Since it was under warranty, I scheduled it into Camping World but it took a month to get it an appointment, then two two three weeks before they could look at it and then another month or two to get the warranty approved and the fridge fixed.

Since I'm a newbie, I asked an experienced RVer to look at it with me to be sure I wasn't missing something obvious. There were three fuses on the power supply board and all were fine. Then he suggested I see what a replacement board would cost online. I don't know why this didn't occur to me; I've added RAM to my computers and changed out internal hard drives.

Sure enough Walmart had the board for $140 and had it to my door in two days. Changing it out took 10 minutes (being careful to get the right wires connected to the right leads). Walmart would have even taken it back if the board wasn't the problem. Now my wife thinks I'm a genius and we don't have to drag out the camping cooler and ice.

Unplugging the connector from lower board to upper display board and then replugging it back in might have be a FREE fix

Communication error just means upper/lower weren't talking with each other.....usually due to loose connectors

And you don't have to deal with Camping World!! Win Win

Sometime back my Norcold would not switch to propane. I pulled all the connectors I could and reinserted, problem resolved! When back home I took them apart again and sprayed with CRC electrical spray...All good!
