Electric upgrade
I have a 1972 airstream sovereign land yacht 32’.
I’m upgrading from the original univolt V to a WFCO 8900 series.
You might already know the wires that go into those old units but here they are,
Red/ black battery
blue car battery
White load
Brown/ purple/ yellow/ pink
Red/ black ammeter
Gray (power on gray sfe 4)
Going into the new box is easy for some but I’m wondering what I need to do for the others. Here’s what I have so far;
Red/ black battery - easy, pos neg on the fuse board
White/ blue car battery - not sure where to hook these up
Brown/ purple/ yellow/ pink - each on their own 20 amp fuse
Red/ black ammeter - I don’t know, should I hook these up right on the battery?
Gray (power on gray sfe 4) - ?
Also do you know what the pink yellow purple brown are dedicated to each?
Thanks, Jordan

Color codes are not universal, its whatever the manufacturer picks, so your last question is a crapshoot at best.
What is the "white/blue car battery" are you referring to the leads from the trailer 7 pin connector on the tongue that charge the trailer battery from the tow vehicle?
If so the hot one needs to enter the trailer and have circuit breaker protection, then probably connect to the same point the hot wires from the converter and the battery connect together.

I wish I had started with the bare chassis, but I didn’t, so I’m not sure where any of these exactly go. For example the white/ blue car battery. I assume they hook up to the 7 pin. Even so, I’m not sure how to wire them into the new panel.

Jordan,
Colors are not definitive. What the wires are connected to is what matters. On one end you have the load. On the other end you have a fuse or circuit breaker. These are the things you need to know to connect to the new service entrance.

Thanks for the replies. Seems like my main point of question is the thick blue and white wires. They seem important. The blue wire was hooked up to “car batt ckt blue” the white is hooked up to “load- white”. The dive into the frame of the trailer so I’m not sure where they go. I could look to see if I have access to the 7 pin and see if they go into that, the blue probably does. Any ideas of where I should be hooking these up to the box?

If you have the original panel in place, pull fuses and see what circuits are affected. If you have already installed the new panel put a jumper on the non energized wire and trace it with an ohmmeter for continuity.

New 8900 Panel
Converter POS goes to that single +VCC connection (where you have it)
*Red
Converter NEG goes to that double NEG connection (where you have it)
*White
Trailer Battery NEG goes to same double NEG connection at top
*Black
Trailer Battery POS goes to that double POS connection at bottom
*Red
Car Battery POS goes to same double connection at bottom
*Blue
Car Battery White... Needs to connect to a NEG
BUT you only have TWO (double lug connector at top where converter/trailer NEGs are ) ?????
The 5 DC Load wires.....
Brown/ purple/ yellow/ pink - each on their own 20 amp fuse
**start at top of DC Fuse panel and connect each one (#1 - #4)
Grey....probably on POS #10 or #11 if fuse is higher then 20A
Red/ black ammeter - I don’t know, should I hook these up right on the battery?
**YES connect at trailer battery
SO the big question is that Large Car Neg (White) ----- Frame of trailer???
