Equalizer WDH with Passport 239mL

Looking into purchasing a Passport 239mL travel trailer.
My tow vehicle is a 2016 GMC Canyon Crew Cab Short Bed with factory tow package
TV Specs:
Payload - 1510lbs
Curb weight - 4260lbs
GCWR - 12000lbs
GVWR - 5800lbs
Max tongue weight - 900lbs
Towing capacity - 7000lbs

Passport 239mL specs(From brochure):
Dry weight - 4140lbs
Tongue Weight - 425lbs
Cargo capacity - 1260lbs
Length - 25'5"

My question is which size Equalizer hitch do I go with? 1000lb model or 600lb model? The website recommends the 1000lb model, but I've read that its not good to use a WDH too big.

Do you guys for see any issue with towing this TT with the 1000lb Equalizer WDH?

Thanks

A 600lb hitch would ride nicer. But a 1000lb hitch will cover you up to the manufacturers max hitch weight.

I would go for the bigger setup just to have that peace of mind.

I would also go with the 1000. You won't know your actual tongue weight untill you get all loaded up. Plus, when you decide to upgrade campers in a few years you can just transfer the hitch over.

I have the 1000 and have been very happy with it. The dealer installed it when we bought our Jay Flight 267bhs back in 2012 and when we bought the Pioneer to upgrade to a bigger floorplan I transferred the hitch in the Camping World parking lot.

I had a 1k/10k with my 238ML and loved it. The 239ML is nearly identical and will get heavy on the front if you have full propane and water (if it is under the bed like mine was).

I used the 1,000 lb. hitch with 2007 Tundra and Winnebago Minnie (6,300 lbs. loaded) and towing performance was outstanding. And, 1,000 lb. bars give you more leeway if you change trailers in the future.
