Extended Warranty?

Any thoughts on a 5 year extended warranty for 2012 passport 2910 BH? Dealer says $1600 , is this worth it?

Welcome to the forum!

If you use our search feature you'll find a week's worth of reading material on this topic. There are at least two school's of thought; self insure by putting the money you would have spent on the policy in the bank and take your chances.... and, purchase the "insurance" for peace of mind but don't look at it as an investment which you hope to "come out ahead on"... because you probably won't.

We're glad we bought a 7 year plan on our DP but a travel trailer is an entirely different animal and I'm sure some of our trailer experts will chime in soon.

Best of luck and again,

You'll have plenty of reading to do but in any case if you do decide to take on a policy just make sure you read all the fine print.

I have bought two trailers and one diesel MH and purchased the insurance on each one. I always by used and have so far received good value from the policy.

If I was buying new, I might hesitate to buy the warranty, especially on a trailer. Most of the components have new warranties on them and should provide you with a pretty good life cycles. In some cases, the big ticket items like the AC, Fridge, Heater, etc might have manufacture warranties that run out 2-3 years. The trailer manufacture's warranty should give you adequate time to discover any really large problems with the construction of the unit.

Other than that, pay carefull attention to what they DONT fix and who can fix and who can authorize work.

Also pay very close attention to the required maintenance, who can perform it and the necessity to keep detailed maintenance records.

You'll find a lot of interesting reading on extended warranties in this list of threads.
