Extended Warranty
My wife and I are about to close on a '21 Grand Design Inspire. I know we'll get hit with the pitch for an extended warranty. I usually decline this for cars but I'm wondering if they are worth the cost for rv's. Any advice/input would be appreciated. This is our first rv and we're just beginning to realize there's a lot to learn. Thanks is advance

No not worth the paper it is written on imho. I am thinking you might have to have a dealer inspection every 6 months at your cost.

I never go for the extended warranties on anything. From what I have read in this forum, they seem to be a real hassle just trying to get a few dollars reimbursed, if you can get any at all.

The dealer will most likely try to sale a tire warranty and paint protection also!

Bought a extended warranty on the 2002 Monaco LaPalma I bought new.
Workhorse W-22 chassis. Engine blew and a whole new long block was needed to the tune of $9000 parts and labor.
It paid for itself that time. Have a Jayco TT now and never would consider a extended warranty on it.
Do all my own work on it. If you consider an EW you better read the fine print and definitely negotiate the price.

Extended warranty is the same as throwing $$$ away. Most never use the included warranty to to practically non existent service departments. So why would you want to just prolong it.

I would ask for a complete list of everything that the warranty DOESN'T cover. As in if it's not on the list, it's 100% covered.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined us!
I'm not a fan of extended warranties on RV's, especially TT and 5th wheels. I think that, in most cases, you will be better off to put that same amount of money into a special bank account to be used only for repairs. Extended warranties are a huge money-maker for dealers!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Not from the dealership. Look for exclusionary type policies that list what's not covered. Check out Coach-net and Wholesale Warranties. I personally like them on Class A DP. My TT came with a 2 year warranty and I will start looking at one about 18 months into the 24 month factory warranty. I look at what I have and whats the odds. I lost one of my 15K A/C units on the third day of use. I will look at 2 A/C, tankless water heater, washer dryer combo, fire place, residential fridge etc. The other thing is are you able to do the work? For me it just another insurance policy.
