You could but I would get a heated mattress pad for the mattress it works great.
I snowmobile weekends so I walk into a very cold camper Friday night
sometime -10 below I turn on heat in the 5th wheel
Turn on the mattress pad, nice and warm. And after a long day snowmobiling even better and if you forget it will turn off after 12 hours I think

No reason the foam would not work.
The problem will be the huge mass of the mattress that you need to heat. We warm up the mattress after storage. Usually plug in the electric blanket to heat the mattress for several hours as part of setup. After than it's usually OK. After that we keep the house warm enough so the mattress is more or less like home. I'll keep the foam in mind if I decide to to some winter camping. ;-)
To use heated pads one needs power. ;-)

I put refletix under the mattress pad in cold climates one time I forgot to remove it and the wife got mad because she got too hot when it was warm out

I store the refletix under the mattress and it does not affect us in the summer

I'm not so sure the foil backed styrofoam would help. The foil is to reflect heat away so if its placed foil side down towards the cold storage area its not going to help. If the foil side was placed up the mattress itself is likely too much of an insulator to reflect any heat back. Either way I just don't see it helping much but...
Maybe you're on to something. Give it try and let us know how it works. It probably wouldn't cost much to experiment.

One of my projects for this spring is to insulate the under bed storage area. Thinking of lining the whole thing with foam board and foil taping the seams.
PS, using all caps is considered yelling on the internet.

Not a fan of putting a foil between the mattress and frame. I did it in my last trailer. I had a lot of moisture in between the foil and mattress causing some mold issues. I learned an important lesson about airing out under the bed in cold wet PNW climate.

I never thought of this, being a newbe and all, but I might try a sheet of that stuff underneath the portion of the bed that extends over the storage area. maybe attach to the underside with some sprayment..

Do yourself a favor and either don't use it or put it under the whole mattress. If you don't the edge will bother you.
What we noticed with the mattress is that it is essentially a big sponge soaking up moisture when sitting all winter. In the spring it gets dried out by us sleeping on it or by baking it with the electric blanket. Doing it with the blanket while we are getting ready in the spring is a lot more comfortable!
If we lived in the PNW instead of the NE I would be folding the mattress for the winter. Probably flip it once just to let the moisture work evenly. If I was getting mold I would be running a dehumidifier. One of the "benefits" of a mostly less than freezing high humidity environment.

I just stuffed my left over rolls of a couple different kinds of insulation all around my water storage tank under there where I could feel some drafts from the cabinet and under headboard area.
Haven't had an actual cold mattress issue as of yet.
