Fridge door latch

I have a Everchill 12v fridge in our Freedom Express trailer. The latch that is suppose to hold it closed allows it to open an inch or so and is very loose. Am I missing part of the latch or is this really designed to fail?
The picture shows the latch in the open position if you expand the pic.
We just stuff a sock in it for now to keep pressure on the door, but its almost like there should be another piece to it.
Thanks for any ideas
