Grand Design Transcend Water Heater Tank Plug
Hello! I have a 2020 Grand Design Transcend Xplor 260RB. Can anyone tell me what size socket I need to pull the plug on the hot water heater to drain the water? It's a plastic plug without an anode. Thanks!

Usually 15/16” or 7/8”.
Stand to one side or you’ll get wet (which may happen any way).
Best to get plug lessened so you vpcan turn with your fingers, then stand to one side while removing completely.

Release the tank pressure by opening faucets inside the camper.
I replaced the plastic plug with a brass one that had a petcock on a previous camper.

Atwood uses the Nylon Drain Plug
Depending on Vendor it will be a 6 point 15/16" or 7/8" socket
Nylon is used due to Aluminum Tank ...nylon will not hurt the aluminum threads
Brass can gall and damage the aluminum threads
Drain hole is 1/2".......petcock drains are only 1/4"
Aid in 'draining' water out but do nothing for allowing crud to be removed

Thanks to all that replied. Mine was an a 15/16 socket. I opened the safety to allow the water to be released. This also worked the safety. Again, thanks to all!

A square plug should get an 8 point socket for proper grip. No one has them anymore but use caution when using a 12 point. It can round the corners.

It is best to do what I do. Do it on a cold day, get your hands wet and cold. Make a note to do it on a warm day but the following year you are doing it on a cold day. It is best to do it on a day with snow flurries.
Don't over tighten the nylon plug. I make it hand tight and then about 1/4 to 1/2 turn with the wrench.

All true.
I used Never-Seez on the threads. No galling.
Using a quality filter, never had any gunk in the tank, either.
I put in the petcock because we used to have to winterize several times a winter and it just made it easier to drain the tank.

I don't think Never Seize does anything to prevent galvanic corrosion.
