Hatch lift springs

I recently removed the hatch lift springs from my bed platform. I tried to re-install them and they won't compress. I figure either they are either broken or there is some trick I'm missing. Anyone got any ideas ?

Raise the bed platform to the height necessary to slip it on. I hope this helps.

Simple answer to my compression lifters. Was advised they need 90 lbs of pressure each. I just didn't push hard enough !
