Holes left in trailer frame

I replaced my weight distribution hitch from a system that had a friction bar with a ball attached to the frame of the trailer to an Equil-i-zer hitch which doesn't use the separate friction bar.

My question is that when they removed the ball from the trailer frame they painted the area where the bolts were removed but left the holes exposed. Should I find some bolts and screw them into the holes so they are covered? Is there something else that would be better to fill the holes, short of welding plugs.

I had a car in a state that required a front license plate. I moved to a state with just a rear plate required. When I took the front license plate holder off it left 2 holes in the bumper. I got stainless screws and screwed them into the holes.

It does not look much better than holes. If you can match the paint you could put in short bolts then paint them carefully.

I used a small piece of sheet metal pop-riveted to cover the holes then repainted the tongue. Will not notice unless you know it is there.

I guess if the frame is fully boxed where the ends are also capped it would be a good idea to seal them up so water isn't allowed to collect inside. If your ball was attached like mine is they are self tapping screws so you could just use the same size screws and call it good. If the ends are open then I wouldn't really worry about it but thats up to you.

Clean up the holes with a 3/8 bit and plug with black plastic 3/8 hole plugs.

Spogdog, Can you describe the difference in handling between the old style Reese and the new Equalizer on your 24 RLS?

Sorry for the long delay. I hadn't been on a long trip since changing the WD and I wanted to experience that before providing you feedback. I made the change because my old WD hitch was only rated to 1000# and I determined that my hitch weight was closer to 1200#. In addition I wanted to be able to back up without removing the anti-sway bars which I had to do with the old hitch. To be honest I didn't notice any changes in towing behavior. With the old hitch I pulled it along at 65mph with no issues and was passed and passed many a big rig that would have provided plenty of opportunity to get some sway action. I felt the same type of pulling and movement of the TV with the new hitch as I did with the old.
