iGO travel trailer interior trim help

Hi... not sure if this is where to ask for advice [1st time].
Both sides of the interior door trim is deteriorating and not sure how to repair. Can I cut off the bad section and leave it alone? Not sure how it got wet ~ possibly rain from entering/exiting camper.

This is a fine place to ask questions. No matter what you ask, you will get responses. Not all responses will be equally useful, of course 😉

You might be able to get replacement trim pieces from your dealer.

You could cut it off, but that may leave a gap that looks just as bad.

An alternative is to cut/carve back the surfaces that were water damaged to a smooth and relatively solid surface and paint it to blend with the original color. That don’t make it look new, but might make the damage less obtrusive.

Another thought is to find some trim at your local big box hardware store and replace the whole sticks. Some stores will have prefinished trim.

What he said

It might look better if you rip off the trim and replace with some wood trim from a Home Depot or local store. Paint it black to match the entry door frame or whatever will match your interior decor. Should last longer too.

I think I would try to replace the whole piece with pine trim from Home Depot or Lowe's. At least you can make the new piece one color. Not 100% sure how I would attach the new wood piece but glue comes to mind.

The new piece can be painted and made a lot more water resistant than original.

Oh, at 1st I thought you were going to say the cat destroyed it.

Agree, remove the vinyl wrapped fiber board, and replace with similar pine board trim.

Once you remove the old trim, I bet you’ll find cracks that could be sealed with caulking before installing the new piece.

Also check around the door on the exterior to make sure it’s sealed up good as well, including on top.
