Info re Winnebago Minnie wheels/tires!

I thought I might share some info that I've gotten about the wheels on my Winnebago Minnie 2201DS. Although the Chineese tires that are on the trailer (Lionshead) seem to be doing ok, I'm thinking seriously about replacing them before leaving on a 5K trip next May. So, I've been researching tires. As a result, I needed to know whether the wheels can handle a tire rated for 65 psi inflation. Since the documentation that came with the trailer is pretty much useless, I called Lionshead and the lady that spoke to me was very helpful.

Bottom line, the wheels on my trailer are rated for 50 psi and no higher. She also forwarded to me a pdf file that provides info on how much torque to use when tightening the wheels.

After looking at what tires are available without buying new wheels, I'm going to put a set of Maxxis tires on the Minnie. I had a set of Maxxis on my Sunline and they were excellent.

I posted this just to let other Minnie owners know that info re tires and wheels is available from Lionshead. I really don't want to get into a dialogue about trailer tires, ST vs LT tires etc. That subject has already been beat to death on just about every TT forum around.

I've actually been happy with the tires after 10k+ miles.
Just because a tire has a max rating of 65psi, does not mean you have to run it that high. At 65psi it will be able to handle it's max weight rating, that weight rating is probably more than what the axles and wheels can handle. That does not mean you will have that much weight so there is no need to inflate that high. I've never heard of a wheel not being able to handle the tire pressure. That sounds very suspicious to me, but I'm no expert. Also 65psi will give a harsher ride and rattle the whole rig more. The sidewalls do offer some degree of suspension especially over "winter" roads with small, sharp irregularities.
