I wouldn’t do much more than a pop up behind a sequoia. Maybe a small hybrid. They’re gutless, and the short wheel base won’t make for a great towing experience.

Neighbor has 4 kids basically 12 to 14, so 6 people and their pulling aboit a 25 footer with their Sequoia. Personally I would not do it, but their going on 3 years with this setup, so I guess their happy.

Sequoia has the same 5.7 as in the Tundra, even though I am not a fan of this engine it’s definitely not gutless. But the shorter wheel base, and payload will be your limiting factors. Keep it around 20’ box length, and stay away from models with heavy tongue weights.

Yeah, the engine is pretty powerful but I get the feeling the suspension is a marshmallow. Every time I see one with any kind of trailer the rear bumper is 2" off the ground and the headlights are pointing at the sky. As others mention, the short wheelbase isn't good either.

The 2020 Sequoia is rated to tow 7400 pounds. I have a friend that tows his off road racing truck (small Tacoma, not a big trophy truck) in an enclosed trailer way off road without issue in a 2018 Sequoia, and his trailer is ~6,000 pounds with the race truck, fuel, tools and spares. The only things he has done are aftermarket brake controller and updated hitch/sway control. He has said he would like to put air bags or a more robust rear suspension on it, but it pulls good enough that he really hasn't prioritized doing it. His only complaint is gas mileage, he only gets 8 MPG on the freeway while towing. He jokes that he carries extra fuel in the trailer for the Sequoia, not just the race truck.
I would have no issue attempting to tow a decent-sized travel trailer with a Sequoia.
But I will admit, that is easy for me to say coming up on a decade of owning a 3/4 ton diesel that makes pulling anything easy. Been a LONG time since I have had to worry about payload or max tow ratings LOL.

Under powered? Tow a pop up? Awful small? I don’t know where some people get their information! The 2nd gen Sequoia has plenty of power with the 5.7. It has very large brakes, also. My brother has a 2018 and not only tows his race car trailer, but also his 24’ boat and a 28’ bunkhouse. Not all at once, mind you. He has a Hensley hitch and has had no problem towing.

Just so you know, no Toyota Sequoia can tow 10,000lbs. Think how ridiculous that is.
I agree with about 4,500lbs as the suspension is built for a smooth ride.
SUV's are built to carry people and it does that great. You do not see Sequoia's used as a tow vehicle very often if ever.

Agreed, there is always extreme ends, but the truth is always somewhere in the middle.
Sequoia is usually right around 1,000 lbs payload depending on options. Look inside the drivers door for your trucks rating. This is your limiting factor. Tongue weight, WDH, all passengers, and stuff you put in the truck goes against this number. Some choose to completely ignore this, and some won’t exceed it by 10 lbs.

My 2008 was rated originally at 10K towing with a 1300 lb payload. I added air bags and was able to tow my 6500 lb trailer without difficulty. As noted, it does have a relatively short wheelbase which does cause some porpoising but the air bags helped it.
The newer Sequoias with same engine are now rated at about 7500 lbs towing.
The low payload of 1300 is an issue...with a hitch weight of 800 lbs, that does not leave much left for passengers and cargo.

^^This
The 10K "tow rating" some are talking about is what it can PULL.... Yes, the engine is strong. The limiting factor by far is what it can CARRY. 1000# of payload evaporates pretty quickly once people and gear are in the truck. Put a few people and some basic things in the back and you'll have 400-500# of payload left. That's the tongue weight of a loaded trailer that weighs 4000#..... WOW! What happened to that 10,000#??
