It's not really rude but it is unnecessary. Just a normal cordless drill does the trick just fine. I don't think I'd trust an impact gun on those cheaply built stabilizers.

I use my normal cordless drill and after a few hours or a day of using the trailer I'll snug the stabilizers up with the manual tool.

I do not see it as rude... It seems to be a fact of life in camp grounds like the other noise many folks pointed out in this thread.

The only time I came close to complaining was a young guy with a side by side vehicle up in Idaho in 2022... He was working on the vehicle. Then a few test drives up and down the camp ground roads at very high speeds.. Soon tho , the camp ground host-manager dropped by and the side by side was parked.

I don't think it's rude at all if it's during the day. What's it going to take? A whole 30 seconds on each side if you really take your time. Ours are electric, and so loud it's almost embarrassing. After hours is a different story. Again, I'd be embarrassed to put them down after hours. That is rude.

Last summer my wife and I took a 3 month trip around the Pacific northwest. We stayed at quite a few RV parks and I lost track of how many clowns were out there using their impact gun at sunrise to raise their stabilizer jacks.
IT IS JUST PLAIN RUDE!

Why would you use an impact gun on a jack, unless it was rusted and not turning? Impact guns are for breaking free nuts that are torqued down, not for use on jacks.

Many campers may not have the room or the will to carry a tool for every job. The impact will do more than substitute for a drill therefore the impact was their tool of choice. It surely will work better on rusty lug nuts if need be. Maybe all they can afford is one of the two. What ever happened to "Live and Let Live"?

I use a cordless ratchet. I can feather the trigger and go quiet and slow or punch it and it gets a little loud but nothing like an impact driver. Nice thing, it's a long handle one and eliminates me having to bend over too much. Mine is SnapOn but Horrible Freight has copied it.

It seems to me that people using the wrong tool for the job just don't know any better.. Same for using an impact before 8:00 Am or after 10:00 pm...

It doesn't make them rude and it's not that big a deal. Educating them is the right thing to do. Criticizing them is rude!

I'm a big fan of demonstrating the error of their ways by educating them, using the nicest, least aggresive way possible.

I once had to demonstrate the error of our neighbors ways when they played loud music till after midnight. I had asked them nicely to turn it down, but the sound level ended up getting louder over time. The next morning it only took about 10 minutes of loud outdoor music at 6:00 Am for them to get the point.
It was much quieter after that.

I later explained/apologized to other nearby campers. They all appreciated my position saying they understood. It was a lot quieter for the rest of our stay...

Safe travels and all the best.

I'm just a quiet person by nature - I hate slamming doors and making unnecessary noise. When we had trailers I used a cordless drill to deploy my stabilizers - keep things properly lubed & clean, and that's all you will ever need. So, for me personally, yes it is kinda rude - that sort of noise really travels.

I do understand when I camp with others that their views or tools will be different. When we are in a large CG and the impacts go off at random intervals I just roll my eyes to myself and go back to whatever I was doing.

Both a variable speed drill and an impact driver will work. But.....

Both a variable speed drill and an impact driver will work. But the impact can cause premature wearing of your hex-head bolt. And the variable speed drill is much more respectful of your neighbors because regardless of what time of the day you use it, it still makes a loud racket.

Rude awakening

Last month I was awakened by the sound of an impact driver being used by a neighboring camper breaking camp for an early srart. This was my first exposure to this noise and yes I feel I was rudely awakened, i will add that if I was already awake or if it was after 8 am I do think it would have bothered me at all,

Inconsiderate Car Honking vs. Impact Driver Use: Assessing Disruptions

Using an impact driver between 10 and 6 is somewhat disruptive, but not as bothersome as those who incessantly honk their car horns when locking and unlocking, causing middle-of-the-night alarms. At least your work is necessary, brief, and not randomly persistent throughout your stay..
