So, I took the camper back to the storage lot today. I tried multiple things: moth balls spread around the tires and the front jack, moth balls in panty hose legs hung from the bottom of the trailer, 2 glue traps inside and 4 Tom Cat Spin Traps inside. I am hoping this solves the problem.
My wife is convinced it didn't happen at the storage lot. She thinks it happened the night it was in our driveway before leaving. She swears she would have noticed the droppings when she was loading the camper before leaving. She says she's certain she would have noticed. I'm not sure either way. It did rain the night it sat in my driveway, and there is a house being built right next door and across the street. Maybe the construction and dirt being moved/trees being knocked down drove the mouse my way. Not sure. Either way, I hope this helps and we don't see evidence of a rodent agan.

When I have found rodent sign I use all methods discussed and is my understanding that Warfarin makes them thirsty so they leave in search water, f they don't get out the poison basically dries them from the inside out sorta like a dehydrater and have never had odors or carcasses to deal with. It is my insurance policy to stay rodent free.

I had a friend who let me in on a secret. Mint oil. Hard to find but comes in a small bottle that looks like old mecurchrome sp? get a bag of cotton balls open bottle hold cotton ball over opening turn upside down a second or two. distribute in corners and closets ect. stuff a few in any duct outlets. Mice don't like mint aroma and your trailer will smell fresh and minty.
I am a hunter and leave my TT parked in the woods on dirt. This works for me in Georgia. I also use mouse traps when I am gone. Just use latex gloves and open trap into zip lock bag dispose of in garbage. Reuse traps.
I also use a ball of steel wool stuffed into openings. esp where elec plug goes into the camper. Heater exhaust too. Just make sure to do a safety inspection before using to make sure its removed before use.

Mice like small dark spaces where they feel safe, mice like grain so I built some mice houses out of 2.5" pvc pipe. Cut pipe about 12-15" long and put a cap on one end. Load some bait grain into the pipe and shake it to the bottom and place the pipes around the outside of the trailer on the ground. I put mine between the tires, near the front jack etc. Mice eat bait and go to die before they ever enter the trailer. Cats, dogs, and children don't get around the bait. Mice die and I'm happy.

I have always used some stuff called freshcab. It comes in little pouches and I scatter them around the camper and I have never seen any signs of mice. Also it gives the camper a little bit of a fresh cedar smell. A friend of mine would get mice in their camper every winter during storage. They started using freshcab in their camper and haven't had anymore mice.

We were coming home from a music festival, rig had been parked in a field with high grass. I stopped at a convenience store, opened the door, as the steps came out, there was a mouse on the exterior step. It saw me and ran back under the rig. I figured it must have been scared to death riding under the rv for a couple of hours. And hopefully climbed down while we were stopped.
A few days later, I went to the rig, in storage, and inside was the terrible smell of a dead mouse. I have looked, and looked for that sucker and can not find it. Now what?

We have a Black Racer Snake in our yard. No mice that we can see.

About all you can do is block, trap, and repel with all the aforementioned methods and elixirs.
We have found it is definitely a matter of luck. Some years mice and some years no mice.
This year was a mouse year, with a complete cleaning and inspection of both the living areas and all the "behind the panels" spaces. No nests but a lot of droppings. YUK !!
I have become convinced that mice can walk through walls.

We had to share this onee...
Recently a group of field rats invaded the shop and they did not seem to interested in the peanut butter.
In looking for something else we forgot where we put it we discovered they had got into the dry dog food we thought was in a good spot so we re baited all of the traps with the usual peanut butter then topped it off with chunks of the dog food.
Got 4 last night but that is not the reason for the post...we need to get a lot to ticket...Just look at the photo....What are the odds...?

What number are you going to play? Which ever number you pick, coming from you, it is the winning number!

That's interesting. We're surrounded by forest as well, and we park on a gravel pad. We don't have a shed (I wish). We've not ever seen any evidence of rodents in any of our RVs either. We've only been doing this for about three years, so I expect our time's coming.
We don't leave food in it unless it's in sealed containers.
I've also wondered how they'd get up to the RV. I don't think they could climb the jacks' smooth surface. They could probably climb the tires, but I don't know that.

I agree with the peppermint oil comment. Every year when I'm ready to winterize I go buy some small plastic shot glasses at the dollar store. Place a couple of cotton balls in each cup and using the dropper provided I place a generous portion of peppermint oil in each cup. I place roughly a dozen cup throughout. In all storage compartments, lower and upper cabinets and in the hot water heater compartment. I have not had any issues. This method keeps ants, spiders, mice, etc. out of your trailer. I recharge the cups maybe twice over the winter. The smell is pleasant and when your ready to camp again it doesn't linger to long. Moth balls do ok but the odor tends to linger and I really can't stand the smell of moth balls. I think I paid about $8 for a 4 oz bottle of oil. It lasted me about 2 seasons.
Another trick I use for keeping spiders and ants out during the season is to purchase flea collars. I place them in the storage compartments and they must be working because I haven't had any issues.
