Just my two cents, but we bought our two TT's new and from a reputable dealer to avoid unknown issues. Had a bad inverter replaced under warranty on the first one, and have had no issues with this second one.
And, I like being the only family to have used the bed, bunks, toilet etc.
Was able to finance a new one without any difficulties.
Went well under our tow limit - trailer is about 3700 dry weight - and have no issues with prudently stocking it to suit our needs (including towing with a full water tank), versus keeping a constant eye on weight.

Do y'all have kids, how right is it on rainy days? I'm wanting to look for a 18-21ft, my wife thinks we need a 28ft with 2 small kids(her mother isn't helping the situation as usual). After reading and the responses here, I'm thinking of smaller and not to have to worry about weight so much.

Suggest you take the DW and kids to a dealers, ditch the salesman and sit the family in the trailers of your choice. Pretend you are trying to entertain the kids, make dinner, watch the game, have a nap, hang wet clothes with the door closed.

I suggest that you get two trailers, one the size that you want and another one for your mother-in-law.
I agree with Gordon, role playing a camping trip will help make a better decision as far as space. The weight decision is solely based on the math.
