New Trailer Owner

Just purchased a 2018 Sunset Trail Grand Reserve SS-26SI. Really loved the layout. It came down to this or a Premier, but the Grand Reserve had a couple extras we really liked. I will be towing with a 2014 Toyota Sequoia Limited. From the research I've done, my Toyota should handle it. This is a big step up from our 10' pop-up. I have rented a couple trailers/class C units in the past to help decide what would work best for us. We love the national parks, so a class C limited our mobility too much without a tow vehicle. I do a lot of fly fishing and need to get around to some remote areas. We're really excited to get out for the first time. Will be doing some local camping within our state, with some longer trips as well. Any Sunset Trail owners out there that can share their experiences? As is usually the case, most of the feedback I find is negative on all brands. Appreciate any input. Safe travels.

Congrats on the new TT! Just watch your wet and loaded weight with that Sequoia. Might be reaching its upper limits of what it can handle.

X2 I hope your research was accurate. What I'm saying is your TV rear axle weight rating is where you have to watch the limits. Tongue weight can be an issue.

People often only look at the stated weights from the manufacturer and assume there accurate.

Use a truck scale for accurate weights. load your camper and TV as if your going camping and hit the scale.

Hopefully your not shocked by the weights. Not trying to be negative but a scale is the only way to verify where your at accurately and know if you are towing within the Sequoia's limits.

Use a good weight distribution hitch with sway control. Hope it all works out for you.

According to a quick internet search.......

TT dry weight is: 5,986
Hitch weight is: 740 (dry)

Sequoia tow capacity: 7,100 - 7,300
Sequoia payload: 1,315 - 1,370

Not the best matchup in my opinion. You have a max of 630 lbs of payload left to account for propane and batteries on the TT tongue and anything inside the Sequoia including passengers. Also, you only have 1,314 lbs left of your towing capacity left for the TT propane and batteries and anything inside the TT.

Be safe.
