Newbie tire and transmission questions

We bought a new TT 3 1/2 weeks ago and then I broke my right leg 2 days later. Hopefully the cast will come in 3 days and I'll be able to take delivery of the TT. I have 2 questions about my 2014 Silverado 1500 with the trailer package.

- the tires are rated for 2400 lbs each, 32 PSI recommended and 44 PSI max. I've read that inflating tires to the max PSI will over inflate them in the west Texas heat. At what point do I inflate them and how much air should I add when hooking up the trailer?

- I understand the older GM trucks with tow/haul mode and OD transmissions would overheat when tow/haul was engaged in OD and going up a grade. Is this still an issue with the new setups. The only thing I've found is to use tow/haul mode when the TT weighs more than 80% of the max trailer weight (9800 lbs in my case).

It's good to see you here and hear that the cast is ready to come off.

I would tow at max PSI for stiffer sidewall.
As far as the tranny, I'd lock out 4th and engage the tow/haul depending on the weight of your trailer

Use the 44psi, don't listen to anyone that tells you different. Sidewall flex builds heat, that is why you increase the air pressure when you are loaded. Use the tow haul mode whenever you are towing, that is what it is for it changes the way the transmission acts for better results and less wear and tear on the drivetrain. Drop the transmission out of overdrive if it starts to shift up and down.

The stock passenger Tires on the 1500 don't tend to last. They are safe for the truck but wear out fast when towing significant weight. When you change tires consider LT tires they are stiffer which gives a rougher ride but they will last longer.

thanks for all of the replies. I noticed when I drop from OD to Manual it goes to M1 immediately so I was concerned. Re: the tires - I'll be looking at LT series when it is time to replace times however the truck only has 7000 miles so I hope that expense will be down the road a bit.

Check the air pressure before driving. The tires are designed to handle the increased pressure as they warm up when driving. I would run them at the maximum when towing. Is this the maximum pressure listed on the tire or the pressure recommended on the door frame tag? My 3/4 ton has a lower pressure listed for the front tires than the backs. I use the tow/haul mode whenever I'm towing, no overheating on my 2012.
