Wink Newby to RVing and site

I am wanting to sell my FL townhome, buy an RV to live in during the winter months in Florida. I have a home in NC that I live in from April to December. I do not particularly wish to live in an RV park, but would be looking to find somewhere to buy to plant my RV, preferably in a wooded area. Is this unrealistic? If anyone has a comment or helpful information, I would be really grateful. Oh yes, I live by myself, love to kayak, have an Aliner classic now for camping and enjoy interior Florida. I also would want to have fairly good access to a large city i.e. Orlando, where I live now. Thanks.

Your biggest hurdle is going to be zoning. Many jurisdictions won't let you set up a travel trailer on a lot permanently. Something about driving the surrounding property values down.

As said, zoning will be your big issue and that is almost anywhere. If you can get a lot and put in power, a well and a septic system, you can do this. I have some friends that have. But, you do have to shake though the whole thing with the bureaucrats first. One friend of mine got by them by building a "Hobby Barn" - a gravel floor pole barn that has a door big enough for his RV.

I would think that after the zoning issue. Utilities will be your biggest problem and costliest. Electricity, water and sewer will not be cheap to install.
