Portable camp fire place

Thought I would attach a few pictures of a fireplace a made from 1/4” steel. I made a mock up with cardboard first. For size and fit issues. Cut out on my metal bandsaw.

Ingenious. Mind if I copy? I'm dragging a fire-pit on my boat when island camping. That would save alot of space.

That's really cool. Love now it breaks down. Better patent that before someone going on Shark Tank gets wind of it.

How are you planning to get the ash out without making a mess?

Very nice. I have a Snow Peak foldable fire ring and love it. However…
If you are camping at a CA State park you may be banned from using it. I was. Fires in fire ring only, and even then no wood or charcoal fires at certain times of the year.

My guess would be the same way you get them out of any other portable fire pit, you don't. However, a very small modification would allow the ashes to fall through the bottom. Add a tray to catch them and that would be pretty handy...

Pretty good observation. I intentionally left about 1/4” gap on the bottom. This improves air flow and I have a baking pan that I took from the kitchen so the ashes are easy to control. I use the same small metal shovel that I use to clean my wood burning stove at home. Also not shown are the two metal rod wood supports that hold the wood off the bottom. 3/8” rod welded to lay against the sides. One about 2”” off the bottom and then a larger one that hold briquettes about 2”” below the top grate for grilling steaks. That top grate is made from monel by my father. Unfortunately he is gone and that grate is probably 60-65 years old. Good as new. I think about him everyone I use it. He taught me a lot.
I think it must weigh about 40-45 pounds. Four pieces make it easy to handle.
I’ll post some pictures of some parts not shown.

Final pictures and one bonus idea.
Some dimensions for those interested.
Fireplace ends 15 1/2” tall 14 1/2” wide.
Fireplace sides 22” long by 12”” wide.
Upper grilling grate 22” by 15”.
Aluminum griddle 22” by 14” by 3/8” thick.
Wood or briquette grates. 17 1/2” by 5” and one at 17 1/2” by 9 1/5”. The larger rest on the sides.
Bottom wood grate supports 7 1/2” long by 3/8” rod. Four of these. These insert into the holes drilled into the sides. The one picture shows two in place.
Also see the picture of the 14” Weber Smokey Joe grill grate. I fill up my large Weber chimney about half full and then put this on top. Talk about hot and juicy steaks. Brest for just my wife and I when camping. I also carry a two burner Camp Chef propane griddle and a Weber Q2000. Based covered
