Power Awning Question

Our travel trailer has a power awning. Made by Dometic I think. Push a button and it rolls out. Push the other button and it rolls back in. Pretty cool.

Camping last week with some friends, I was asked how to retract it if the battery is dead or some malfunction happens.

I thought about it and said, I dunno.

Anyone know?

Well first find out what awning you have. Looking up the manuals online will show you how to retract them manually at that point.

Thanks Bill_RV. I guess I should have known that. Next step is to see if I can spot a Brand/model number. Mine doesn't look like the Dometic 9100. Makes me think I may have the brand wrong.

If you have the manual for it, it will probably provide the information you want. Otherwise, find the make and model number and search for a downloadable manual.

I just updated my Dometic manual awning with the Lipper Solera 18 volt power arms and the procedure for retracting manually is just to use a socket with a drill, and a ladder. There is a port with a stopper at the top of the arm that has the motor.

I wanted to circle back on this. I guess my first problem incorrectly identifying the awning maker. is it is a "Carefree Compass" awning.

I found the owner's manual online. Under the emergency retraction section, it basically says to hot wire the motor to another 12V source. Says nothing about a way to manually retract the awning. I'm thinking if I ever need to manually retract the thing, I'll figure out a way.

Yup. TinBoats is a terrific forum with a great group of members. (But, don't tell them I said that).
