Purchasing used 2018 Lance Trailer - Advice?
Hi folks - I'm considering the purchase of a used 2018 Lance 1685 from a private party with 1 season's use. It appears to be exactly what I'm looking for. It would be the first camper I've ever owned.
Could someone give me any insight on what an approximate/appropriate purchase price might be? Or even just how much less than new would be a reasonable price? For the sake of debate, let's assume it's in excellent condition. Also, with regards to mods like solar for example (this one has several mods) do sellers typically recoup very much of those costs? Thanks for the feedback!

A 2019 Lance 1685 is going to be around 40k with sales tax. Here is an example: That being the case I think 30k for a used one would be a great price. 35K would be an ok price. Add on features are a wash to any dealer on a trade-in. They do not consider them at wholesale value but when they turn around to sell it they add ot on. I would think a fair price to pay for add on features to be 50% of original cost.

A brand new 2018 here in NorCal sells for about $32k + tax. A 2019 is only a couple grand more. I'm not talking retail price. I mean this is what the dealer has said they would sell me one for. And it wasn't very difficult. I just asked over the phone.
I've checked the NADA guide for the 2018 used one I'm considering and unfortunately they don't list a 2018 yet. What I'm trying to get a handle on is, what is the market hit for one year's use/age?
Agreed, I think 50% of original cost is reasonable. Assuming all of the add ons are desirable.

You can see that the MSRP was 44k and they only discounted my example $6,500. If you can get a new 1685 for 32k that means a used one should be maybe 25k.

On Lance trailers 20 to 25% off MSRP is common, especially in the western states.
They hold their resale really well. If it was me I would look at all units for sale,
and go with the one you like best, and try and get the best deal.
On the 2018 year models they switched over to a PVC roof, and Goodyear tires. Not sure what build date they started this. But the PVC roof was a great upgrade IMO.
Also the 1685 was a great seller until it’s bigger brother, the 1995, came out. It’s the same floor plan with a walk around bed. Tongue weights are the same.

From what I've seen the hardest RV's to sell are just one year old. So unless you really get a good deal you probably could get a new one for a similar price. Just speculation though in this case. I haven't actually done my homework. Easy enough to do though.
Solar is nice and this could add value if done correctly.

I don't have any insight on used Lance pricing, but I will suggest you hire a mobile RV tech to go through the unit before finalizing the deal.
5 seasons ago I purchased an 18-month old TT and we had 2 problems that should have been caught by the RV tech's inspection. One was the trailer had not be properly winterized and the diverter in the shower was damaged.
Lance was what I would have lobbied my spouse to let me buy had we not found the used TT we did. I still admire any I see in the CG's.
Best regards,
Chris
