Question about my 1973 Holiday Rambler ceiling inside

My white ceiling inside my travel trailer has a weird ceiling and I wonder what it is and if I can repaint it white over the years it's gotten dingy in a few stains from ceiling leaks but those lease have since been fixed. The closest I can explain how it feels is like Kellogg's frosted Shredded Wheat the little squares if you drain me like that and it looks like that does anybody know what that is?

Kind of sounds like the ceiling fabric in my coach and that was kind of an industry standard for years.
Drop a ceiling vent surround and look at the edge of the material , I think you'll find it's a fabric glued to a thin wooden backing .
If it is you can try cleaning with an oxi-clean solution; spray on solution and rub lightly, with a soft bristle brush; but don't soak the material as the glue might let go. Allow plenty of time to dry before a second attempt at cleaning.

Yeah I just feel like even if I do lightly scrub it with a soft bristle bristled brush everything's just going to start falling apart and like dust pieces all over the place it's brittle

Well if the material extends to the back of a closet ; you could try vacuuming it there and a coat of paint; to see if it will take paint and look acceptable.
I found this site when looking to help a neighbor with water stains .

OK , it's been years since I used it , could be the company changed hands , I'll investigate.

EDIT: after a spelling check and correction , it's working now.
