Riverside 2012

Hi. I'm not an expert on RVs but we are looking to buy one to put in our property as an affordable private space for family when they visit, so not to travel with it. I'm going to see one advertised as Riverside 2012 sold by private owner. It looks good in the pictures, but I would like to have some information if possible before spending 3 hours each way to go see it. I find a lot of pics and reviews about Riverside white water or retro, even a Riverside with a loft, but it's not this one. This model has a particular look with the sliding glass door, so it would be easy to identify but it does not show up in any of my online searches. Does anybody know anything about this trailer by looking at the pics? Thank you.

I want to add that I did find this one in the link below, which looks very much like the one I'm going to see, same size also, but it says it's 2010, so not sure if the information in the trailer I'll be seeing is correct. It belongs to an older man, and his son wrote the ad, so he may not have all the facts straight. I did check by the model this post gives, but still found nothing else. Here is the link:

I have no experience with Riverside. It looks like a lot of other TT's on the market. It is probably not winter hardy for Pennsylvania.

Check to see if dump valves are exposed and if it has double pane windows. Even "Heated and enclosed underbelly" may not have freeze proof belly plumbing.

Thank you very much. Like I mentioned, I'm not an expert and any advice will help. Would anybody mind suggesting what I would offer for it would be?

There should be a sticker on the front driver side of the travel trailer with date of MFG, model number, and weights. Ask the owner to take a picture of it and send it to you.
As far as price goes, once I had the year and model I'd look for comparable for sale.
I am certainly not an expert, but if I was not going to move it, a few things I'd do right away are build a carport over it to keep the weather off the roof and get it off the tires (they are going to rot and constantly lose air).
If you pour a concrete slab and build a carport the combined cost might be approaching a she-shed or some other prefab building with less amenities but better weather protection.

Consider hiring an inspector. NFW would I drive 6 hrs for a trailer w/out an inspection first. You could also ask the inspector what he thinks it is worth after he reviews the report with you.

There are so many good trailers for sale that odds are you have many near you. I would look for a true 4 season trailer with heated and enclosed tanks as well as better insulation and dual pane windows. Something like an Arctic Fox makes for a much better investment and quieter and more comfortable to stay in.

Thank you very much. This is all very helpful. Yes we will be having a carport over the trailer. We have already calculated the prices for different options, and it would be at least 10K to 20K (depending on details) to have a studio she-shed built. The asking price for this trailer is $8,400 and it seems ok to me, but again, it's so far, that I'd want to be as sure as possible that the trip is at least worth a try. About the 4 seasons feature, we are not too concerned with that, because we don't anticipate to have a need for its use during the winter months. I'm more interested in making sure AC works properly.

4 seasons means it cools easier as well. And that sliding glass door will make summer heat come right in. Your choice but I would certainly look for a better insulated model. The price will not be any/much different. You don't say where you are so no idea what temps you will likely encounter but a poorly insulated trailer may struggle to cool more than 10 degrees in hot weather.

Alright, thanks. That's how little I know about trailers. I'll have to check out the 4 seasons if I can find a second hand one. We are on the Chesapeake. Winters can be cold, but not NY or PA cold, and summers are steamy, hot and humid.
