It is definitely not a great idea to travel with your propane tanks open, no way, no how. Every single RV manual I've ever read strongly cautions against doing so. I have been RV'ing for 17 years and I know that things can go wrong, and do go wrong, especially with RV's. Why add in another negative element when it is not necessary? Simply get your heater fired up right after you arrive at your destination. I have never had an RV that failed to get pretty toasty in 10-15 minutes, once the heater was running and the doors closed.
