Question Sewage Smell Only While Dumping

I put plenty of water into my black tank and throw in a couple of the drop-ins after every dump. I keep the valves closed when not dumping. Opening the toilet - not much of a smell, outside the trailer - also not much of a smell.

When I do a dump I use the back flush until the water runs clear and I then dump the grey tanks.

However when (and only when) I am dumping the blank tank there is a strong sewage smell outside of the trailer, not inside of it. This lingers for up to 20 minutes after finishing the dump. It seems worse towards the basement area.

Is this simply odors leaking from the sewer hose?

Why don't the drop-ins eliminate the smell?

Thanks!

Sounds like, if you're parked in one certain RV space all the time, that there may be a break in the feeder pipe to the sewer line. Look for a wet soft spot on the ground.

The other thing I'm thinking, is perhaps you're not screwing the end of the slinky into the drain pipe fitting. The pipe coming out of the ground is supposed to be threaded, and your slinky is supposed to be screwed tightly into it. If that's not possible, you're supposed to use a rubber donut for a tight seal.

If there is any kind of back pressure caused by the flow of effluent from your tank dump, that can pressurize the plumbing and force smelly air up out of the system into the air around your RV, if there's a leak in the RV parks plumbing system near your RV.

I don't think the problem is in your RV, but rather in the RV parks plumbing. But...you're there, check around.

Remember ; when your dumping , your black tank & vent on the roof of your RV is acting as a vent for the whole park sewer system.
