Sharing a trip problem...
So, DW and I were having our last-blast weekend trip last weekend and hit a snag late Saturday night...
After everything working perfect; suddenly, while DW was showering, every 110V appliance went dark... No fan from the AC, no clock on the Micro, TV dead, even the Convertor fan stopped spinning..
OK I thought, must have popped the main breaker.. NOPE. It was fine. OK then the pedestal breaker was weak.. NOPE.
Surge arrestor took a hit? Nope all green.
Main breaker failure? My most likely thought.. since it is on/offed the most.. maybe path was cut, meaning no power to 110V bus.
Failed extension cord? No test equip to check, but have a hot light on the trailer side....
So, we decided to cut it short and head home at 11:00PM on Saturday instead of 1PM Sunday.
On getting home put a Multimeter on a couple spots to check.
1) Feed end of main breaker to each 110V load side was good.. proving out the breakers (not under load) and the bus.
2) continuity checking extension cord looked good, albeit with some oxidation on hot lead the smelled fresh. (sanded that off)
3) progressive surge suppressor said OK, so I trusted it.
Decided that this all pointed to the power inlet.. so cut that out and tested..
Surprisingly, the ground and it's screw fell out in my hand.
Neutral was ok
Hot was on and off.. continuous one sec and open the next on my DMM.
Amazoned a new inlet for $37 and trailer is working good again.
Moral of the story... 1) Even the most simple, non-changing part of your RV systems could be your cause. 2) it's tough to plan all the tools and spares you may need. And 3) sometimes retreat is the right answer (at least in the moment).
