I had a 2013 Sierra 5.3L towing my trailer, around a 900 tongue weight including weight of the distribution hitch. Trailer starting weight was 7200 lbs, after being loaded I took the truck and trailer to a scale near me. I was surprised with how much crap we loaded in it and the final weight.(9200lbs) If the tongue weight is a concern, there is the possibility of loading some weight(gear/foods/clothes) in the rear of the camper...just dont add to much or it will cause sway issues.
I pull all sorts of trailers, so I am comfortable towing the TT(34ft from hitch to bumper). It is way easier and less stressful to pull under 25ft(cabin size). Also I would not want to pull anymore more weight with my Sierra.
I ended up buying a F-150 and it pulls even better surprisingly. But if I was not a weekend warrior and full timed, I'd upgrade to a 2500. (1500's just ride to nice to give up being a daily driver)
To address the slide, I was previously in the boat of no slide by choice because I was worried about issues. Turns out I love having slides, in fact I have two on my TT now. Very happy!
